A 22-year-old man has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder for allegedly intentionally running into and seriously injuring one man and trying to hit another.

Justin Tafoya allegedly tried to kill the two men with his Honda Accord following a May 27 argument at a Thornton convenience store, according to a news release by Sue Lindsay, spokeswoman for Adams County District Attorney Dave Young.

Ryan Belearde, 21, suffered a traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures during the alleged intentional collision, the news release says.

Thornton police previously reported that an injured pedestrian was found lying in the street about 7:45 p.m. in the area of West 88th Avenue and Conifer Road.

After smashing into Belearde, . Police later found the damaged car and filed an arrest warrant against Tafoya.

At the time of the crash, Tafoya was serving a two-year probation sentence out of Denver on a charge of theft of between $2,000 and $5,000.

When he was arrested on Dec. 4, 2015, he allegedly had burglary tools in his possession, according to Colorado Bureau of Information records.
