U.S. women’s national team announces match in Colorado vs. New Zealand

The USWNT will face New Zealand at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Sept. 15

The U.S. women’s national team in coming back to Colorado, and the Centennial State natives are stoked about it.

“Denver!! The #USWNT is coming back in September!” Mallory Pugh, the Highlands Ranch native, wrote on Twitter on Friday.

The U.S. will face New Zealand at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Sept. 15. The match kicks off at 8 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN 2.

“What up Colorado! The #USWNT is coming for ya in September,” Lindsey Horan, of Golden, wrote on Twitter on Friday.

The last time the U.S. women appeared in Colorado, they they trailed 2-0 after 22 minutes. Horan scored to put the Americans ahead 3-2 in the 89th minute, but the U.S. could not hold the lead in stoppage time.

That June 2016 match was seen by a sell-out crowd of 18,572 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

September’s match will be the fifth time the USWNT will play at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, and the team’s sixth visit to Colorado.

The last time the U.S. faced New Zealand was in the 2016 Olympics. The U.S. won 2-0 on goals from Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan. The U.S. is 12-1-1 all-time against 20th-ranked New Zealand.

Tickets to the match will go on sale to the public July 14 at 10 a.m. Rapids season ticket holders get first crack at tickets, in a July 13 pre-sale.
