Ozone alert for Front Range, metro Denver extended to Sunday afternoon

The Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment on Saturday for the Front Range and metro Denver.

The alert is now in place until 4 p.m. Sunday.

Health officials say a combination of hot temperatures, clear skies and light to moderate winds make increased ground-level ozone more likely in the area. Smoke from  is exacerbating air quality issues along the Front Range.

Ground-level ozone can cause respiratory problems, reduce lung capacity and trigger asthma attacks. Individuals sensitive to air quality should stay indoors and reduce physical activity.
