Colorado State senior quarterback was named to the preseason watch list for the 2017 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award on Wednesday.
The award is given annually to the nation’s most outstanding quarterback who’s either a college senior or a fourth-year junior.
Stevens made seven starts in 10 appearances for the Rams in 2016, establishing himself as one of the country’s best passers late in the year. The California native completed 98-of-137 pass attempts for 1,414 yards, 14 touchdowns and just one interception from Week 7 to the end of the season. Stevens ranked first in the Mountain West conference and fifth in the NCAA with a passer efficiency rating of 171.3 last year.
Stevens was a 2016 All-Mountain West honorable mention and led the charge for a Rams squad that finished the regular season 7-5, earning their fourth consecutive postseason berth.
The top 15 finalists for the Golden Arm Award will be announced in September. The formal presentation of the award is Dec. 8.
