Re: July 14 Leslie Brodhead column.
I was pretty appalled to read Leslie Brodhead’s column arguing that homeowners in fire-prone areas have a duty to cut down trees. She made it sound like some kind of accomplishment to cut down healthy, naturally growing trees in what’s supposed to be the wild (if it wasn’t for homes like hers in the way). Are you kidding? Chase off more wildlife by further reducing habitat so that they die or get killed off in other ways?
There are far too many homes up in the “wilderness” that have taken away far too much natural habitat. It’s very bad for nature and the environment, and it’s not sustainable. It should be stopped.
