A Grand Junction city councilman says he is exploring a run for U.S. Rep. , possibly setting up a Democratic primary in the GOP-leaning district.
Chris Kennedy earlier this week on Facebook and says he will decide before the end of August whether to jump into the contest as a Democrat.
“I’ve been asked by multiple different groups to consider it,” he said Friday. “We are exploring the potential and the possibility of doing that, but no official determination has been made.”
Kennedy says in his role as a councilman and a regional broadband coordinator he has talked to many people who have felt left behind by Colorado’s economic resurgence and want better representation.

Republicans have a significant advantage in voter registration in the 3rd Congressional District, and last year Tipton won re-election by about 14 percentage points, despite by Democratic rival Gail Schwartz, a former state senator.
Tipton reported raising $148,588 for his campaign between April and the end of June, with $82,000 of that coming from political action committees. He had $267,116 cash on hand heading into July.
