Re: July 21 Jon Caldara column.

After reading Jon Caldara’s emotional and important column about his children and Children’s Hospital, I couldn’t help but wonder how he and the Independence Institute (Caldara is its president) can justify the anti-government and anti-taxation rhetoric that they espouse, which jeopardizes the support so many families need as they struggle with their challenges.

Repealing Obamacare, reducing support for Medicaid (which pays for care at Children’s Hospital), allowing insurers to reject those whose needs are the greatest should be part of Caldara’s plea for all of us to understand how important it is for all people with severe needs to receive affordable care and be able to tell stories of how grateful they are for our compassion.

Jon, we have donated to Children’s Hospital for more than 30 years, and we’re glad that our generosity has made a difference for your family. I encourage you to support those in need and not tax cuts for those who need it the least.
