A Boulder County woman believes one of her chickens has laid the smallest egg in recorded world history.

The egg is so small, in fact, that when Sarah Wise first collected it from the nesting area of her home near Louisville, she thought one of her chickens had passed a kidney stone.

After further examination, though, it turned out the blue-ish specimen was indeed a real egg.

And now that she’s measured the thing — it’s 1.7 centimeters long, according to a digital caliper — Wise believes the egg may qualify with the World Record Academy.

The current record is 2.1 centimeters, and it was set in 2011 by a hen belonging to Rev. Donnie Russell of West Virginia.
