Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Zac MacMath on Tuesday underwent successful surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee and is expected to miss four to six weeks, the club announced.

According to a team spokesman, MacMath was playing through the pain in his knee the last three to four weeks. How the injury was sustained and whether or not the meniscus was torn the whole time has not been disclosed.

The 25-year-old has . He has seven MLS starts this season, including the Rapids’ last two games — Saturday’s 1-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes and a draw with Toronto FC, 1-1 on July 22. He has also appeared in two U.S. Open Cup matches this season.

MacMath started the first 16 games in 2016 before Howard arrived in Commerce City and was statistically one of the best keepers in the MLS. In 17 games, he recorded a 0.76 goals against average — a franchise-best.

MacMath has registered one shutout, 18 saves and conceded eight goals in 2017. He is 12-9-5 in 27 career MLS appearances with the Rapids.
