Dozens of firefighters battled an early morning fire Saturday that heavily damaged the caretaker’s home at The Broadmoor Seven Falls, shutting down the popular tourist attraction west of Colorado Springs for the rest of the day,

No one was in the building, which is used as an office, when the fire broke out about 6:45 a.m. The blaze was kept from spreading beyond the building located just inside the gates of the park at 2850 S. Cheyenne Road.

A recorded message said the park would reopen at 9 a.m. Sunday.

To fight the fire, several water tenders carrying thousands of gallons of water had to be brought in because there are no hydrants nearby, said Fire Department spokesman Capt. Steve Wilch.

More than 50 firefighters responded after The Broadmoor Fire Department put out a call for assistance, Wilch said.

The Broadmoor Seven Falls is a series of cascading waterfalls that reach a total height of 181 feet, according to the city’s Visitor Information Center. The top of the falls is accessible via a 224-step staircase that begins at the base.
