In Boulder County, where a fast-growing tech economy is creating three times as many jobs as housing units, KB Home can show you four model homes during this weekend’s Parade of Homes that offer value-priced alternatives, 15 minutes from Boulder’s Foothills Parkway. At Somerset Meadows, off Airport Road in Longmont, KB Home has 17 plans, including eight ranches, that all offer stark contrasts to comparable home prices in Boulder.

“If you’ve been searching Boulder for a brighter housing picture, you need to see Somerset Meadows,” says Randy Carpenter, division president for KB Home Colorado. “This is an attractive new community that has Longmontap very best commuter access, where prices start from the high $400s.”

In a market where the median home price was up almost 14 percent last year, to $529,000 in Boulder County and $885,000 in Boulder proper, KB Home really can deliver a new home in Somerset Meadows under $525,000. The location, notes Carpenter, is close to Longmontap new Village at the Peaks outdoor mall with Whole Foods, and to well-rated St. Vrain Schools. The Longmont Diagonal into central Boulder with its fast-growing Google campus, is three minutes away.

KB Home builds its family sized Lafayette plan here — 2,396 square feet with three bedrooms plus a main-floor study and a loft, plus basement and two-car attached garage — and has two of those set for an early start at nearby Blue Mountain Elementary School, 8-for-10 stars at GreatSchools.org. One is ready right now, $570,499; another on track for later in fall, $587,643.

You can tour ranch models in both KB Home collections — including the Domina ranch from the Estates Collection, showing 2,605 square feet of finished space, with a full-wide, 3-car garage included standard. If you need a ranch soon, there’s a 2,293-square-foot Avana ranch set to deliver next month, with 10-foot ceilings, on a choice site that backs to a proposed 6.6-acre park looking west to the mountains, at $670,855.

Whether ranch or two-story, Carpenter says that early buyers at Somerset Meadows are taking advantage of the great comparative value to Boulder and finishing the basement with options for an extra bedroom suite and entertaining area. You can see that option modeled in the Domina ranch — a huge dividend on usable space, along with surprising storage space, as well.

You’ll hear about the City of Longmontap NextLight fiber optics service being provided for fast internet connections; and about the popularity of downtown Longmontap Main Street brewery district, 10 minutes away. To reach Somerset Meadows during the Parade of Homes, from central Longmont take Hover Street south past the new Whole Foods to Clover Basin Drive, then head west a mile to Renaissance Drive; turn south a mile and continue to Pike Road. Or from Boulder, take the Diagonal/Highway 119 northeast nine miles to Airport Road, head north on Airport a mile to Glenneyre Drive, and turn west.
