Re: Aug. 4 guest commentary.

Ross Izard of the Independence Institute writes in his opinion piece that the Center for American Progress  used “clever wordplay” when detailing its argument of inherent racism in school voucher efforts. I suppose, but I ask Mr. Izard to quit conflating “school choice” (i.e., open enrollment, public charter schools) with “vouchers” (state-collected monies diverted to religiously affiliated programs), as he did several times throughout his article.

I am a successful charter school teacher, I am very invested in the idea of school choice, and I find the proposed voucher programs despicable attempt to both circumvent the First Amendment and to ignore our schools and students who need our attention and efforts.
