GRAND JUNCTION — A bear that ransacked a Colorado home has been killed after it returned to the house while officers were working to set up a trap.
The Colorado Parks & Wildlife officers were in the process of obtaining a trap on Monday when the bear returned. Wildlife officers then shot and killed it.
Leah Lee is a neighbor of the ransacked house. She says the bear continued eating anything it found despite barking dogs and shots being fired in its general area.
Mike Porras, a spokesman for Colorado Parks & Wildlife, says it’s not fun, but officers must euthanize bears that threaten human safety.
Porras says it has been a very active bear year, with roughly two dozen bears in western Colorado being killed to date.
