With five major urban remodels behind him, Brian Rindels knew from the moment he set sight inside this 1911 Classic Revival-styled home that he would need to really open up the interior to get a full release of its potential. Neighborhoods like Denver’s Potter Highlands, wrapped by new restaurant districts in LoHi, are filled with century-old homes like this — but rarely will you see as attractive a makeover as this one has had. To give you a look, Realtors David Bell and Michael Aden with AdenBell Group at Kentwood Cherry Creek will have refreshments out Sunday, Aug. 20, from noon to 3 p.m., while Eagle Home Mortgage raffles off an iPad to some lucky visitor.

At $1.150 million, 3415 Zuni St. has been on the market only a week. For three-bedrooms-up, three baths and 2,413 square feet plus another 667 feet of finished basement space, Rindels says the price is well supported by area comps, now trending toward $360-per-foot. Remodels from this era can head in one of two directions — trying to revive their period authenticity (but dark and hard to match to furnishings), or chasing after the modern look (out-of-sync with their heritage). Rindels takes a center course that preserves the columns, but adds a rich stacked rock trim that resonates with a palette in antique whites and warm grays. This is a thorough makeover — stamped concrete in the covered porch and patio with pergola, an outdoor fireplace, wide-open island kitchen, a big master suite created from new construction with its own patio deck and a new three-car garage.

Potter Highlands is one of dozens of additions that comprised the town of Highlands before it annexed into Denver in 1896. Rindels, who lives in Jefferson County, says he and his wife spent enough time in LoHi on the project to explore local culinary attractions including Root Down and Highland Tap and Burger (three blocks south). Their next venture is an 8,700-square-foot home in Franktown. To reach 3415 Zuni, take Speer Boulevard northwest out of downtown, past I-25 to the first right at Zuni Street and turn north, seven blocks to West 34th. Aden and Bell are on their cell phones at 303-887-1358 or 303-525-4896.

The news and editorial staffs of The Denver Post had no role in this postap preparation.
