Re: Aug. 11 Dottie Lamm column.

Thank you to Dottie Lamm for explaining, though it may seem obvious, that charter schools and vouchers are two completely different entities. A branch of the left is painting this issue with a broad brush — if you’re not with them, you’re with Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. Reality is much more nuanced than this rhetoric.

Linking all charters or the DPS board to DeVos’ platform is a political tool to try to get certain candidates elected, but it perpetuates a false narrative and disregards the excellent work that many charters in Colorado are doing, and for some of our neediest students. You can be against DeVos’ policies and simultaneously support charter schools in Colorado.

‘Political hopefuls should focus on honesty in their campaigns and ultimately in what’s best for students — and for many scholars, it happens to be a charter school.
