Longmont’s Emergency Unit is on standby to deploy four water rescue volunteers to Texas, where people are bracing for catastrophic storming from Hurricane Harvey.

Bryan Flansburg said he, Steve Tart, Matt Marre and Tom Dell were alerted at 8 p.m. Thursday that they should start packing up their rescue gear in preparation of the call for go time.

If deployed, they could be there helping with water rescues or assisting with dives as certified divers for up to two weeks, Flansburg said.

“Longmont Emergency Unit was started because of the tragic drowning of three boys here in Longmont 60 years ago,” he said. “So to be able to help a community in Texas on our 60th anniversary would be really an honor for all of us.”
