Police are looking for a man convicted of child sex assault who slipped out of court before a jury returned a guilty verdict.

Sergio Hernandez, 43, was found guilty Thursday afternoon on multiple child sex assault charges by an Adams County jury, but the defendant failed to return to the courtroom. Details related to the charges were not released.

Had Hernandez been present at the time the verdict was read, deputies would have immediately cuffed the defendant and hauled him off to jail to serve his sentence. But Hernandez chose not to return, and now an arrest warrant has been issued.

Police say Hernandez has ties to Fort Lupton, Denver, and Commerce City. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 911.
