Boulder police cited a transient with animal cruelty after he allegedly fed an 11-week-old puppy a mix of alcohol and mouthwash.

Shannon Aulabaugh, Boulder police spokeswoman, said police got a call from a technician at an emergency veterinary clinic at 8:43 p.m. Friday when an 11-week-old shepherd mix named Stella Luna was brought in with alcohol poisoning.

Aulabaugh said police believe the puppy’s owner, Scott O’Neal, 45, fed it a mix of beer, whiskey and mouthwash before giving the puppy to a passerby who took the dog to a veterinarian.

Police are trying to find an animal clinic or lab that can run blood tests to determine exactly what was in the puppy’s system.
