A first-year undergraduate student at the University of Denver was found dead on the campus Thursday morning.

The death was announced via email by Liliana Rodriguez, vice chancellor of student life and inclusive excellence, according to the campus newspaper, the DU Clarion.

“At 7:15 this morning, Campus Safety responded to Centennial Halls where a first-year undergraduate student was found unresponsive,” the email said. “At this time, this appears to be an accidental death, and there is no further threat to the community.”

“The University is in contact with the student’s family, and we are doing everything possible to respect their wishes, therefore this is the only information we are able to share at this time,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez pointed to a variety of campus resources to help students deal with the student’s death.
