Organizations like to boast that they’re great places to work. But the proof is in the pudding. What do the employees have to say about it? Which places really are the best work environments in Colorado?

Each year The Denver Post answers those questions definitively and decisively with a hard-fought competition among hundreds of employers. This year marks The Post’s seventh-annual Top Workplaces program, and the rivalry among organizations has only intensified — to the benefit of workers.

Any organization with 50 or more employees in Colorado is eligible to participate. They can be public or private companies, nonprofit organizations or government agencies. Workplaces will be evaluated by their employees using a short 24-question survey.

So, let the nominations begin.

Go to  to nominate an employer. You don’t have to be an employee to do so. Nominations also are taken by phone at 303-261-8253.

The deadline is Oct. 20.

Companies will be surveyed during September through November. WorkplaceDynamics, the research partner for the project, conducts Top Workplaces surveys for more than 40 major metro newspapers and surveyed 2.8 million employees at nearly 7,000 organizations in 2016.

The survey seeks responses in seven areas:

  • Alignment — where the company is headed, its values, cooperation
  • Effectiveness — doing things well, sharing different viewpoints, encouraging new ideas
  • Connection — employees feel appreciated, their work is meaningful
  • My manager — cares about concerns, helps learn and grow
  • Employee engagement — loyalty, motivation and referral
  • Leader — confidence in company leadership
  • The basics — pay, benefits, flexibility

Publication of the winners will come in spring 2018, in a special section in The Post and online. There are winners in large, medium and small categories, and many employers are recognized.

Here is a look at last year’s program, by the numbers:

  • Organizations invited: 1,050
  • Organizations surveyed: 213
  • Organizations recognized: 125
  • Employees represented by surveyed organizations: 84,078
  • Employee invitees to the survey: 70,736
  • Employee survey responses: 48,109
