Crews this week are cleaning up debris left by the explosion of a house in Firestone last April that killed two men and seriously injured a third person.

Firestone spokeswoman Jennifer Weinberger said the town issued the cleanup permit Monday. She said crews began cleaning Tuesday, but they were not finished Wednesday morning.

“It’s my understanding they may need to assess before bringing in heavy equipment and with the permit being issued, they had access to the property directly after,” Weinberger said.

The rubble at 6312 Twilight Ave. has remained since April 17, when the house was leveled in an explosion that killed homeowner Mark Martinez and his brother-in-law Joey Irwin.

Erin Martinez, wife of Mark Martinez and sister of Irwin, was badly burned, but continues to recover with family since she was released from the hospital. Her son was injured and her daughter was not home at the time.
