The Lindsay household could be a dangerous place back when brothers Phillip and Zach were growing up in Denver. Example A: Mom brought home a new refrigerator once, and soon after, an indoor scuffle led both boys running wild through the kitchen.
Zach laughed while finishing the story: “He chased me, I opened the refrigerator door, and it was all over.” Ouch. A classic brother rivalry.
Phillip is now a senior University of Colorado tailback. Zach plays the same position at Northern Colorado. They’ll share the same field starting noon Saturday in Boulder when the Buffaloes host the Bears.
“I’ve been playing with my brother since I was four years old,” Zach said. “This will be the first time I’ve ever played against him. Itap a little bit different. Itap exciting.”
Phillip is ranked sixth nationally among active players in career all-purpose yards (2,523) and has averaged 5.04 yards per carry through two games this fall. Zach, a UNC junior, has contributed mostly on special teams, but ran for 87 yards and a touchdown against Rocky Mountain College in 2016.
“My little brother is a bad, bad dude,” Phillip Lindsay said. “I’m excited to watch him run.”
The Lindsays expect plenty of family in attendance at Folsom Field, where postgame photos will be cherished forever. But as kickoff nears, the brothers are focused on just one thing: beating each other.
Just like the old days.
“With how feisty the Lindsays are, we can’t let them cross paths in warmups,” CU coach Mike MacIntyre said. “They might have a little-brother, big-brother fight right there.”
