American Airlines will begin year-round, daily service to Eagle County from its hub at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport starting next year, closing the gap on the two months a year it wasn’t flying to the high-country destination.
American Airlines has already been serving Eagle County with seasonal service in the winter and summer months.
A Bombardier CRJ-700 regional jet will ferry passengers to and from Eagle County Regional Airport between April and May and from September to November. A larger Airbus A319 will handle the route the rest of the year.
“We previously flew this 10 months out of the year,” said Nichelle Tait, a spokeswoman for American. “Next year, we are closing the gap in April and May, making it a full-year route.”
The new service will join American with United Airlines as the only two carriers serving Eagle County with daily, year-round service. United’s year-round flights are to Denver International Airport and back, with a host of seasonal routes spanning the country.
Seasonal winter service to the airport include , such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and New York City.
