Nederland Mayor Kristopher Larsen announced Tuesday that he is running for the 2nd Congressional District seat being vacated by Jared Polis, for the job.

“It’s official, after thinking about it for the last few months, I’m officially running for Congress!” Larsen posted on his Facebook page. “It’s time to elect leaders who will bring evidence-based decision-making back to Congress, particularly when it comes to science-based issues like climate change. Come join me as I set out on this adventure.”
Larsen was elected as the town’s mayor in 2016 after previously serving on Nederland’s Board of Trustees.
He is also a planetary scientist at the University of Colorado and was previously a science education policy analyst in Washington, D.C.
Larsen is seeking to succeed incumbent Polis, a rather than seeking re-election to Congress.
, a former University of Colorado regent and former executive director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, and Loveland Democrat Howard Dotson are announced candidates for the post.
Earlier this month , the former chairman of the Boulder County Democratic Party, , as well.
Ken Toltz, a Democrat and a Boulder gun-control advocate who ran a failed campaign in the 6th Congressional District, has also been weighing whether to get in on the contest.
