Western Union to leave Douglas County for new corporate HQ in Denver next year

Company’s pledged $1 million to Denver charities in conjunction with move

The moving trucks won’t pull up until the middle of next year, but to uproot its global headquarters in Douglas County and set down again a few exits to the north along Interstate 25 in Denver.

The global payment services firm will fill 246,000 square feet of the , Western Union officials say. It is also looking for additional space in another building in the general area.

To commemorate the move, the Fortune 500 company on Thursday pledged to donate $1 million over a 12-month period to Denver charities including the Denver Public Schools Foundation and Mi Casa Resource Center. Some of the company’s 1,300 local employees participated in community service projects around the city as well.

“We’re proud to say that we’re here to stay, and we’re investing in the community and people,” CEO Hikmet Ersek said in a news release.

Western Union signed a sponsorship deal with the Denver Nuggets earlier this year that will see .
