This amendment to Denver’s city charter is the most straight-forward question .

Referred Question 2H asks voters to approve a change in a department’s name — from the Denver Department of Environmental Health to the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment — and increase the size of its board, from five to nine members.

City officials say the latter change is to provide more expertise on the board.

The name change would address public confusion over the responsibilities of the department, officials say.

The environmental health department was created in 1996, after the city’s public hospital was spun off into the independent Denver Health and Hospital Authority.

The new name would make the city department’s public health functions clearer and would echo the name of Colorado’s state health department.
