Grading the Broncos

Offense: D. The Broncos finally scored a touchdown, their first in seven quarters, but four turnovers by the unit and several drops stalled any positive momentum.

Defense: B. The defense kept the Broncos in the game against one of the league’s best offenses despite five Denver turnovers. But an inability to defend tight end on two defining drives proved costly.

Special teams: D. Rookie Isaiah McKenzie’s muffed punt early in the third quarter gave the Chiefs a short field, and they turned it into a field goal and a 20-3 lead.

Coaching: D. At some point, every player and staff member bears responsibility for a turnover problem that is central to a steep slide that has no end in sight.

Travis Kelce. The Chiefs tight end had seven catches for 133 yards and wreaked havoc on the Denver secondary at critical times.

. Though he turned the ball over for the first time this season — a strip sack in the second quarter — he efficiently guided the Chiefs to a huge win in the AFC West when the outcome never seemed in doubt.

. His hard running in the second half finally gave the Broncos’ offense some life as Denver moved to within a touchdown of tying the game.
