Greenwood Village has tapped its police chief, John Jackson, to take over as city manager of the southern suburb.

Jackson has served as the city’s police chief since 2011 and has more than 29 years of law enforcement experience under his belt. Previous city manager Jim Sanderson retired last month and Jackson was the sole finalist for his post.

“The Village is very fortunate to have someone with John’s expertise and experience on staff and the City Council was very impressed by his ability to work with people and his passion to get things done,” Mayor Ron Rakowsky said in a statement.

As city manager, Jackson will oversee 260 employees and an annual budget of nearly $55 million.
