An Arapahoe County murder suspect was apprehended Monday morning after a police chase through Denver and Aurora.

Jacqueline Lucero was wanted on a warrant for first-degree murder in connection with the Oct. 30 shooting death of 30-year-old Adolf Arellano of Denver, said Julie Brooks, a spokeswoman for the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Lucero was captured near the intersection of South Potomac Street and East Alameda Avenue, said John White, a Denver Police Department spokesman.

The Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Fugitive Task Force had learned that Lucero might be near West 72nd Avenue and South Federal Boulevard. As law enforcement personnel were gathering, Lucero left the area in a car and eluded officers, according to a news release from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Denver police spotted Lucero driving near Quebec Street and East 56th Avenue. She led Denver Police Department officers in marked patrol cars on a pursuit throughout parts of Denver, unincorporated Arapahoe County and Aurora until she crashed the car she was driving near East Alameda Avenue and South Potomac Street.

Lucero was taken into custody after a brief foot chase, the news release said.

Lucero is being held on the warrant for first-degree murder. Additional charges related to Monday’s chase are pending.

Denver police were authorized by supervisors to chase Lucero because of the seriousness of the arrest warrant, White said. He was not sure whether any accidents or injuries were caused by the chase.

Motorists can expect road closures in the area where Lucero was apprehended, police said via Twitter.

Arellano was shot in a parking lot in the 400 block of East Highline Circle and later died in a hospital.

Shortly after the shooting, investigators received tips that the shooter, a woman with purple hair, might be in a nearby apartment building. Police evacuated residents in the building and the Arapahoe County sheriff’s SWAT unit searched the building, but the suspect was not there.
