Voters in Castle Rock said Tuesday they want to directly choose their mayor, ending a process whereby members of town council appointed a mayor among themselves.

The rapidly growing Douglas County town voted by wide margin to go with an elected mayor, an idea that began  with 67 percent of voters saying they wanted the change and 33 percent voting no.

The mayor will be limited to serving a pair of four-year terms, according to the ballot measure.

The town council is scheduled to meet Tuesday to discuss how to move forward with implementing the measure, which was an amendment to the town’s charter.
