FORT COLLINS — A Poudre High School student and his mother are dead following a crash in Fort Collins Thursday night.

Police said two vehicles were involved in the crash at the intersection of Richards Lake Road and Giddings Road shortly before 7:30 p.m.

A 1985 Chevrolet Corvette heading east on Richards Lake Road crashed into the passenger side of a 1994 Honda According going south on Giddings Road. Both vehicles came to rest in a field and the front passenger from each vehicle was ejected, police said.

The driver and front passenger of the Accord, Joshua Cortez, 17, and his mother, Kelly Cortez, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A Facebook post on the Poudre Touchdown Club page identified Cortez as a defensive end on the Poudre High School football team.
