A youth corrections officer at Gilliam Youth Detention Center has been acquitted on charges of sexual assault of a child.

Armando Torres, 26, was found not guilty on Oct. 25 by a Denver District Court jury after a three-day trial, according to his attorney, Pamela Mackey.

Torres was with with sexual assault on a child and two counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust after allegations of improper sexual contact with two female inmates at the detention center.

“Prosecutors dismissed two charges related to one of the accusers before the trial,” Mackey said in a written statement. “After hearing the evidence, the jury of twelve deliberated less than an hour before returning a not guilty verdict on the allegations made by the second accuser.”
