Neighbor takes Bonsai tree off Englewood porch, leaves ransom note

A few hours later the tree was back on the porch, dripping with water

Getting your player ready...

And you thought your neighbors were nosy.

An Englewood woman came home to find her Bonsai tree missing Monday night and what looked like a ransom note of sorts taped to her mailbox.

“It said something like I took your little pine because it looked like it badly needed water. If you want it back, call me,” said Taylor Hoffmann. “Not, ‘I watered your plant and brought it back. You have to call me to get it back.’ I was shocked.”

Hoffmann said she tried calling the number several times with no answer.

“Calling the police, I’m like I’m sorry I’m wasting your time, guys, I don’t want to press charges, but I really want my plant back,” she said with a laugh. “It’s just so ridiculous.”

Englewood police records show they called the neighbor and told her to return the plant. A few hours later, Hoffmann said, it was back on the porch, dripping with water.
