14-year-old arrested for bomb threats against Longmont high school

Police don’t find explosives but think the teen called in threats three times

Longmont police arrested a 14-year-old boy Thursday who they believe falsely reported bomb threats requiring police response three separate times at Silver Creek High School, including this week.

Cmdr. Chris Schmad said police evacuated and searched a wing at the school after a report at around 1 p.m. Wednesday, only to find after nearly 7 hours that there was no explosive or credible threat in the building.

“The fact that it was false reporting never came into anybody’s mind,” Schmad said. “But with a pattern, it created an opportunity for us to link things together and find enough information to make an arrest on it.”

The student will face three counts of the following charges: felony false reporting of explosives, weapons or harmful substances; felony attempt to influence a public servant; misdemeanor false reporting to authorities; and misdemeanor interference with staff or activities at an educational institution.
