I lost a job in the late 1960s when a vice president of the company I worked for came from behind and put his hand down the front of my blouse. My reaction was to hit him in the stomach with my elbow (without even knowing who it was) and I was the one who was fired. I get why women have not spoken up; I get that we have been overwhelmed with the power of some men. But I struggle with the idea that someone who did something inappropriate 10-15 years ago is now being dragged through the media circus. My question is, how many of us have done something that we would prefer not come to the light of day and make media headlines? Is there a scale of inappropriate behavior? Does it make a difference if someone has an ongoing history of abuse, like Harvey Weinstein, Donald Trump, Matt Lauer, etc., or if it was a one-time stupid thing? I am just not sure how we sort this out — or whether we even make the effort.
