Colorado lawmaker brought loaded semiautomatic handgun to DIA checkpoint, documents say

A Colorado state lawmaker who was knowingly brought a semiautomatic handgun to a security checkpoint, according to arrest documents.

State Rep. , a Weld County Republican, had four rounds of ammunition in her 9mm gun’s magazine but none in the chamber, according to arrest documents from the Denver Police Department.

Saine was arrested at 1:45 p.m. on suspicion of introducing a firearm into a transportation facility and is scheduled to go before a judge for a bond hearing Wednesday afternoon.

At the Colorado Capitol, Saine has been a defender of gun rights, battling against legislation in 2013 of a bill banning high-capacity ammunition magazines.

DIA is among the  for Transportation Security Administration security checkpoint gun seizures. Agents seized  at the airport last year.

Passengers found with a gun at an airport can face large civil penalties, as well as local and/or state charges.

Firearms can be brought onto a plane if they are properly placed in checked baggage.
