Girl dies from injuries in Greeley playground accident

The girl was playing on swings for disabled students when she became entangled in safety straps

The 6-year-old girl injured in an apparent playground accident earlier this week at S. Christa McAuliffe STEM Academy died Friday, according to Greeley police spokesman Sgt. Joe Tymkowych.

“Today we are heartbroken over the death of our S. Christa McAuliffe student,” Greeley-Evans School District 6 Superintendent Deirdre Pilch said in a statement. “Our deepest sympathies go out to the student’s family and all those in the community who are saddened by her passing.”

Tymkowych said police are treating the incident as an accident and the school has removed the swings to do a safety assessment.
