A man turned himself in to police custody Monday night after a shooting on the border of Denver and Aurora sent another man to the hospital.

Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies were at the Addison At Cherry Creek apartment complex near East Florida Avenue and South Beeler Street for an unrelated call of an intoxicated person when deputies heard gunshots, sheriff’s spokeswoman Julie Brooks said.

Deputies found a man with gunshot wounds inside his vehicle near a different building in the complex, she said. He was taken to the hospital. Brooks did not have updated information on his condition early Tuesday morning.

As deputies were searching for the shooter, the man called the Aurora Police Department dispatch to turn himself in. Law enforcement has recovered his weapon.

Brooks did not have information on the man’s name.
