WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette of Denver joined with several dozen Democratic lawmakers this week in calling for a congressional investigation of sexual misconduct allegations against President Donald Trump.
DeGette was one of to sign a formal letter to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform that asked that the panel look into public accusations by at least 17 women against Trump. (By Tuesday evening, the group said it had opened the letter to male lawmakers and had collected 127 signatures).
Many of the Trump allegations were raised during the 2016 election but they’ve gotten new attention thanks to the recent exposure of sexual misconduct allegations involving several high-profile men, from Hollywood mogul to U.S. Rep. .
“We cannot ignore the multitude of women who have come forward with accusations against Mr. Trump,” wrote the lawmakers, who asked for a response within 10 days.
DeGette recently detailed with sexual misconduct, telling MSNBC last month that former U.S. Rep. Bob Filner of California groped her while the two were in an elevator.
In a Twitter post on Tuesday, DeGette wrote that the “17 women who have accused @realDonaldTrump of sexual misconduct must be heard.”
The 17 women who have accused of sexual misconduct must be heard. I’ve joined @HouseDemWomen calling for a full congressional investigation of these allegations.
