U.S. international Edgar Castillo is set to join the Colorado Rapids on a one-year loan from Monterrey of Liga MX, according to multiple reports. The 31-year-old left back must first pass a physical, according to . The Rapids would have the option to purchase his contract at the end of the loan.
Rapids spokesman Ryan Madden declined to comment on the report.
Castillo, who was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, is one of only two players to appear for both Mexico and the United States in international play. He appeared three times for El Tri before filing for a one-time switch in 2009. He has 18 caps with the U.S., last appearing in 2016.
The 5-foot-7, 172-pound defender has played for some of the biggest clubs in Mexico dating back to 2006, including Santos Laguna and Club America.
The report on MLS’ website said the Rapids would not use targeted allocation money or a designated player slot on Castillo.
