
Nederland might discontinue its football program next season after a committee formed to review athletic and activity offerings recommended the school focus solely on boys soccer.
The school’s size has made it difficult to field both football and soccer teams, and the committee voted “overwhelmingly” to not offer football in the fall, according to a news release from the Boulder Valley School District.
The committee cited student surveys and a difference in feeder systems in its decision. A public meeting has been scheduled on the matter on Jan. 10, and the school’s principal is expected to make a decision within a week following the meeting.
Nederland, which plays 8-man, lost all five games it played this season and was outscored 258-44. The team had to forfeit two other games because of a lack of players.
