Spotlight on: Brad Richardson. The Coyotes’ forward, 32, has had a pleasant NHL career since being selected in the fifth round (163rd overall) of the 2003 draft. He began his 643-game career with the Avalanche in 2005-06 and led the team with three shorthanded goals in 2006-07. He was traded to Los Angeles in 2008 for a second-round draft pick and helped the Kings win the 2012 Stanley Cup. He went on to play two seasons with Vancouver and now is in his third year with Arizona, serving as an alternate captain.

Coyotes — They are 30th in the 31-team league in goals-per-game (2.21) and goals-against average (3.47). … This is a single-game trip for Arizona, which hosts Toronto on Thursday, a night before the Maple Leafs play in Denver. ….
