“We’re not used to that. We don’t know how to do it,” said Pam Day, a life and spiritual coach who recently opened Breathing Space, a daily retreat center downtown. “But it’s so important.”
Breathing Space has a quiet, gently lighted room where clients can be still and reconnect with themselves or with God, she said. It also has a larger room for group retreats.
Rates start at $24 an hour. Day said she can help people with guided meditation, or people can just come and be quiet on their own.
The idea for the retreat space came as a result of her own search for inner peace.
“I was in a place of feeling lost and directionless, so I went off. I just needed some time to myself,” Day said. Several days at St. Benedict’s Monastery in Snowmass allowed her to decompress, relax and de-stress, she said.
“I thought, what if I can start a place that would be in the midst of our busy, chaotic world where people could have an hour or two or half a day … and not have the distractions of home … and just be, and chill for a little while,” she said.
