The Evergreen Lake Plunge is officially on for Monday, a fate that was uncertain after warm weather delayed the opening of the lake.

After a combination of cold nights and workers flooding the skating rink with water, the lake’s ice is now a foot thick, the amount needed for people to be on the lake safely, Evergreen Park and Recreation District spokeswoman Lisa Hamm-Greenawalt said.

The plunge is an annual event where folks start the new year by jumping into freezing water — “Whatever floats your boat — or freezes your boat,” Hamm-Greenawalt joked. The event is one of the biggest fundraising events for DriveSmart and park and rec’s Special Populations Programs

It was canceled last year because of warm weather as well. With more warm weather this year, organizers considered moving the event indoors as a plan B.

The plunge starts at noon Monday. Early-bird registration costs $35, and day-of registration costs $45. Register online at .
