A fire at a recycling plant in northeast Denver sent a heavy plume of black smoke into the air Tuesday afternoon just north of Interstate 70 near Holly Street.

The fire broke out about 4 p.m. at a metal recycling plant at 4661 Ivy St., said Capt. Greg Pixley, a Denver Fire Department spokesman.

Pixley said there have been no injuries at the industrial fire.

Several blocks in the area have been sealed off as firefighters battle the blaze. Drivers should avoid the area if possible.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
