A man who held police at bay when he barricaded himself in a Lone Tree hotel room has been identified.

Joseph Daniel Howland, 32, faces multiple charges stemming from the Tuesday incident, including possession of methamphetamine, aggravated motor vehicle theft, both felonies; refusal to leave a premises and obstruction, both misdemeanors, police said.

Staff members at the Towne Place Suites, 10664 Cabela Drive, called police Tuesday to report Howland as being suspicious. When officers arrived, Howland, who was armed, barricaded himself in his room, police said.

At the time of the incident, Howland was wanted on multiple warrants, including for failure to appear on auto theft bail violations in Arapahoe County, a drug case and an additional auto theft and forgery case in Arvada, a news release said.

The hotel was evacuated during the standoff. Howland surrendered after about an hour without further incident.
