Police arrest suspect who rammed Westminster police car and nearly struck officer

Several schools in the area are on lockout status

Police have arrested a fugitive after he crashed through a fence, forcing a police officer to jump out of the way to avoid being run over, authorities say.

Authorities have arrested 35-year-old Eric Winden.

Before his arrest, he lead police on a chase and As rammed a police car before ultimately crashing the car and fleeing on foot near the 13200 block of Lowell Boulevard.

The chase ensued after Westminster police attempted to pull a car over at 10 a.m., according to Cheri Spottke,  police department spokeswoman.

Westminster and Broomfield police and Adams County Sheriff’s Department deputies helped in the search for Winden.

Several schools that had been on lockout status have resumed normal status.
