DALLAS — The Avalanache won its sixth consecutive game Saturday, defeating the Dallas Stars 4-1 at the American Airlines Center. Game story is here.

THREE STARS

  1. Jonathan Bernier. Avs’ goalie was fabulous, stopping two breakaway bids as part of his 27-save effort.
  2. Alex Kerfoot. The rookie center had a goal and the game-winning assist.
  3. Blake Comeau. Colorado winger was the game’s most physical forward and scored the insurance goal.

WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED

Saturday was the 50th anniversary of Bill Masterton’s on-ice injuries that led to his death two days later, on Jan. 15, 1968. Masterton, the only NHL player to die from injuries from a game, is considered one of the best players in University of Denver history and has an NHL award named in his honor.
