Defending Class 5A champion Eaglecrest seems to be finally finding its groove this winter, reeling off four straight wins following a 5-5 start.
But the No. 10 Raptors (9-5, 4-2) have another tester ahead of them tonight, taking on No. 4 Denver East (11-2) at home at 7 p.m.
The Raptors will need to play clean, disciplined basketball in order to bring down the Angels, who boast one of the best guard combinations in the state in senior Daylen Kountz and junior Kwane Marble.
Senior Branden Bunn paces the Raptors with 11.5 points per game, while seniors Morgan Brown, Darius Houston and Xaiv’ion Jackson are also pivotal for a program that’s winning with a new coach in Jarris Krapcha and, for the most part, starters that were role players on last season’s title team.
After taking on the Angels, Eaglecrest’s Centennial League slate resumes with a trap game at home against Cherokee Trail (9-7) on Wednesday — the same Cougars who defeated Smoky Hill in overtime shortly after break — and on the road against No. 6 Overland (8-7) on Friday.
