Deputy Heath Gumm, 31, was killed Wednesday while chasing down a suspect in Thornton. He had been with the department since 2012.

He is the second law enforcement officer who has died while on duty this year. The first was Douglas County Sheriff Office’s Deputy Zack Parrish.
